I must not be cool. Never even heard of those.

Then again, I don't shop at JCPenney or Marshall's either.

I want to clarify that I NEED an IKEA. I spent my weekend depressed because I will never find decent furniture like that at reasonable prices.

Besides that, I just don't like any of the furniture that they are producing now. Even at the expensive stores it seems cheap-looking.

Estate auctions, estate sales, goodwill, salvation army. These all get a lot of good old stuff and it sells for a lot less than the cheap stuff you see in stores.
Page Auction in Crossville is usually worth the drive.
Page Auction
They haven't updated their website lately but usually have photos. They get a lot of estates from Fairfield Glade, a mix of old and new.
Closer to home, try Terry's in Maryville.
Terry's Furniture & Auction - Maryville, Tn
Check the websites Thursday, Friday for photos. They always both have a lot of things that aren't in the photos.

It all has to do with demographics. I guess those higher-end companies don't see many people in their income demographic in the Knoxville area. What's the median income in Knoxville/West Knoxville??

You should go to Atlanta--which has most, if not all, of those stores mentioned. I live in Stamford, CT, and when I travel down to East TN, I am bummed that they don't have a lot of the same stores as up here. I do think Knoxville should have an American Apparel though...with the number of University kids...I bet one will show up soon enough.

Has nothing to do with "cool". Has to do with different opinions of aesthetics.

Most of us travel outside of E TN on occasion and already realize that Atlanta has all of these stores. It would be nice if they could be reached in less than 3 hrs, though.

Thanks for posting all. As you all know our threads show up on internet searches.

Oh, I would like to add Penzey's to the list. They are my favorite spice store and while I order from them online I love visiting their store in person.
