My husbands company has him down on a L1 visa, they are starting the greencard process.
How long does it take when you go this route? I heard they change the L1 to a greencard application visa or something....I am not too informed on this as you can probably tell.
Has anyone gone from L1 to green card and how long did it take?
TIA

In my case it took 4 years. Three years before I decided to apply for a Green card and approximately 10 months to receive it. I opted to go for consular processing in my home country which is/was quicker. It helped to have the Corps immigration lawyers working on it for me.

You can (or at least could) stay on an L1 for 7 years maximum so best to start the Green Card process fairly early.

Depends on your country of origin (aka chargeability). If you are from any countries like India/China etc. As per the latest visa bulletin, it will take at least 15 years.

We are from Canada, will this make it quicker?
He's gathering info requested from the lawyer the company hired to handle it.

No idea if being from Canada makes it quicker but, if consular processing is the faster way to go, then much easier to do it in Canada than elsewhere. I found the lawyers very helpful in identifying the best option. But, as always with lawyers, you have to ask the right questions to get the right answers.

Yes, but if you go for consular processing it will be done at the US consulate/embassy in Canada. I was working in New York but did my Green Card processing (interview/medical) in London.

I think you will find that L1 goes much quicker than other visa categories.

Nope, not for L1, it goes quickly for L1A, in this case you can apply GC via EB1 category for which the dates are current. For L1, with EB2 or EB3 category it takes 15 years at the least. Reason is the visa # availablity, which caused the loooooooooooong delays.
