Good to know, I had no idea Tower was still in Japan.

Yep, I fondly recall those TV commercials airing on Southern California TV channels. I think Worthington Ford was located in Long Beach.

Had great memories of Pacific Dining Car, the Downtown location.

They were open 24/7, but expensive during regular dining hours. Late at night, they served a “late night” menu with great food at much lower prices. I often ate there after studying or hanging out late at night. I was there eating with doctors and others who worked at overnight shifts, close by.

Sad this place closed down.

What about places gone since the pandemic?

Tower on Sunset (as a few mentioned). But also
Amoeba on Sunset!
Arclight.
Landmark on Pico is closing end of this month.
Stinking Rose on La Cienega.
Matteos on Westwood.
Pacific Dining Car.
Lots of other places :/

Mervyn's

K-Mart has almost vanished, though there might still be a store or two someplace.
They were a national chain, of course.

Going further back in time: Jeans West ("there's one near you, just look for the red, white and blue")

Fun thread!

I remember my mom taking us to Clifton's Cafeteria in West Covina.

I remember going to Crawford's Village at 5 points, El Monte. They had a little carnival with various rides.

I recall Egghead Software and also, “CompUSA” for computer accessories and software.

Somewhat confusing because there was a restaurant chain or group with the restaurants having the name The Warehouse.

And ToyRUs--who would have ever thought back then that that chain would disappear?
When I was a kid, the only thing better than a trip to Toys 'R Us was a trip to Disneyland.
