This thread is about places that you remember seeing around Louisville that were memorable or nostalgic to you from bygone years that are no longer there.I remember the Lum's restaurant on Taylorsville Road near Hikes point was a memorable place for me. I attended Waggener High School and worked there on weekends and knew lots of people. I met the Kentucky Colonels basketball players there back in the early 1970's. Now the place is a Goodwill store when I was here in the early 1990's.Does anybody have any memories of places to share that were once here and are no longer that were nostalgic and memorable to you? What has taken their place?

Winn-Dixie and Bojangle's *sniff sniff

I miss em both!(I know, I'm sad)

There was a building on Dixie that was a stagecoach stop that was tore down for God-knows-what that I wish was still there.
I'll have to think some more, it's awful early!

Off topic I cannot tell you how many people have asked my if the carousel at the zoo was from that place... which it isn't. I wish I could have had the chance to experience that place though.

One of those web sites says it's now at Six Flags in Chicago and that we're trying to buy it back.

The pictures don't do Fountaine Ferry Park justice, although maybe it's exaggerated in my pre-Disney mind. There was no Disney World at that time, so these local parks really took on a life of their own.

Of course, it wasn't all rosy - the park was segregated until the early 60's.

The original New Orleans House was self described as a indoor beach party. Their primary food was a seafood buffet that was simply fantastic. Originally downtown, then they did a second store in Hurstbourne area, and I understand, but never visited, a store in Lexington. The downtown store closed, then eventually the Middletown store.
