I remember the House of Beef, though never ate there. It had a very 1950s-style restaurant design, from what I recall.

Don't remember House of Beef, but I remember The Cow Palace--it was across from Montgomery Chevy, diagonally, wasn't it? It was kinda like Ponderosa (which also is bygone now too, I believe). I didn't mind either place--that was before the all-you-can-eat-buffets came into fashion and it was just a salad bar!--but my parents preferred Ponderosa. They always said the steaks at Cow Palace were tough.

I think the old Cow Palace is now Mexico Tipico (if that's even still there. Is it still there?? lol)

I love talking about all these places I remember from my childhood.....for a few moments I'm again 4/5/6, 8/9/10, early to mid teens......it's great!

Steak and Ale wasn't a bad steak place. No Ruth Chris, but not bad.

Anyone mention Sizzler yet? Always liked their steak and shrimp.

How about the Pryors Restaurant at Indian Trail and Preston? It was the number one cruising spot in that end of town. It's where you went to show off your ride and maybe get a street race together. Spent many nights there hanging out and and trying to look cool . LOL

I remember living there before it was a consolidated city form of government. I remember the Kingfish Restaurant downtown on 6th street,I believe it is a museum now. I loved how the restaurant was shaped like a riverboat,it was a nostalgic place, however it wasn't if you worked there but still sad to hear it is gone.

Kingfish was absoultely one of a kind! Echt Louisville.

Sizzler was quite popular. I think thats were I saw my first salad bar. There was one on Preston and one on Dixe near the Westland (ahem) Mall.

Pryors was sort of before my time in Louisville...they were still around in the very early 1970s.

The place I recall as a sort of 1950s-style restaurant was Sandys in Shively.

Sandy's was still there recently but is now something else. There also used to be a real A&W near there. There was also a Kingfish on Dixie.

Does this mean that Ehrmann's is gone? I used to live in Louisville 30 plus years ago and got caramel ice cream all the time. I'm going to be in Louisville this weekend and was looking forward to having some!!
