Base so short on cooks that mess halls close and alternate schedules causing soldiers to stress food,…but at least the base changed it’s racist name.

they could offer some long manday tours to guard/reserve cooks. and get some more contractors. or bring some cooks from less-busy bases on TDY orders.

Or at formation, they could just tell the first squad, “effective today , you are cooks, Go to the supply room and draw your aprons.”

I mean, yes, I concede that the soldiers are hungry, but the millions of dollars spent on getting rid of John Bell Hood is all that matters, right?

Who cares if you can accomplish the mission, it’s just a social experiment anyway.

Default This is new news?!?

Here is a more complete article that sought out a response from the base, providing some balance. Military dot com writes hit pieces and fluff for the military yet the military forgets the hit pieces. Officially the fort said the lack of soldiers this summer due to deployments, exercises and other absences resulted in the planned reductions in operating hours at dining facilities.

This situation of closed facilities is scheduled and has been for months. See the schedule from May, linked below. If anything, the article should have written before Memorial Day vs August. Why such a delay? Timing?

Which is the simplest suggestion of all. However, that doesn't give some people a cause to claim the military "has the wrong priorities" and rant and scream about changing base names from those of confederate generals. (which they should never have been named after in the first place)

I think you should prioritize feeding the force over virtue signaling.

Your response that it’s nothing more than a hot take says a lot about you and your ideology.

The first duty of a commander is to take care of his (or her) people. That includes making sure they're fed.

Some heads that wear hats with scrambled eggs on the visors need to start rolling.

"At the heart of the issue is the dining facilities not having enough Army cooks to run them. A rotation to the National Training Center, or NTC, and support for a cadet training exercise at Fort Knox, Kentucky, took many cooks off base."

When having trouble comprehending an article in the news one needn't rely on their political bias to clear things up. No, just learn to read better..

There is a serious systemic failure if a Command can't feed its soldiers/sailors/Marines/airmen aboard a stateside base during peacetime.

I don't know about the Army but we were taught in the Navy that there are no excuses.
