The lyrics about the London/Berkshire suburbs, and include the lines -
Quote:
Every lousy Monday morning
Heathrow jets goes crashing over my home
Ten o'clock Broadmoor siren
Driving me mad, won't leave me alone
Heathrow is of course London's major airport and is to the West of London, whilst Broadmoor Hospital is a high-security psychiatric hospital in Crowthorne, Berkshire also in the area.
The Broadmoor sirens were tested every Monday morning, and were installed in 1952 following the escape of John Straffen, as sadly before Straffen was captured by the authorities he murdered a little girl in the area, and there was a lot public anger and demands for increased security.
Straffen's would later be portrayed as the character Streaky Jeffries in the film McVicar (1980) starring starring The Who's Roger Daltrey as armed robber John McVicar, who escaped from HMP Durham's High Security Wing.
The 13 Sirens were placed across the county and they could be heard over a wide area of the Berkshire and adjoining suburban region.
It 2018 Broadmoor removed the 13 sirens placed across the region, replacing them with automatic emergency text alerts for all residence in the hospital region, as well as media announcements etc.
One of the original 13 Broadmoor Hospital Sirens which would be tested every Monday morning, and was similar to an air raid siren.
