Fred's General Mercantile is the store you visited. Their sign says it all, "IF WE DON'T HAVE IT, YOU DON'T NEED IT!

Weather is always an issue up here. it has snowed in every month at some time in past history. BUT, the months of June, July and August are the best months for us. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s most days.
December, January and February are the big snow months.
The resort opens the ski lifts about 8-10 months out of the year. 4 or 5 for the ski season, and another 4 or 5 for the Mt. Bike, Frisbee Golf, and general tourist season.

We've been visiting and living up here for 25 years and love every one of them.

Both!

And it's a big reason to live in sunny California.

LOL, you reminded me that I need a new Beech Mountain sweatshirt that I guess I'll order from Fred's!

What is going on with the Land of Oz theme park there on Beech Mountain? I keep hearing conflicting information that it has reopened on a limited schedule a few days per week or that it's closed with just special event status.

A running mountain stream will skyrocket me to Heaven. I've seen so much ocean in the world, and the only oceans I enjoyed was where the waves would go crashing against seawalls in England or New England.

Interesting timing as we took a trip to the beach a month ago. We commented on how wonderful it is to hear the waves at night but both agreed we would not want the constant noise if we lived there. Where we live it's perfectly silent at 9:00 at night and we both love that. So I guess my answer is beach for vacations but mountains for a full time home.

Land of Oz is only open three weekends this year during the Autumn at Oz festival:

the Land of Oz is set to open:
September 6th-8th, 13th-15th, and 20th-22nd, 2024.

You will need to purchase tickets well ahead or they will be sold out.

I think for the last few years they have been parking down at the resort lots and from there, you either buy a ticket for a lift ride to the top, or take one of the shuttle busses.

Here, this might get you started, or they have a facebook page:

Mountains by a wide margin.

I don’t like to sweat and find ocean views too similar to capture my interest.

I’m a fan of cruises but not for the water other than the nice rocking motion just enough to sleep easily.
