Was worried about this. Many of them said, the compounds disintegrate in that time. Others said, no we are ****ed as the cloud carried the chemicals.

So any reports come in? And indications of contamination? Any scientific data?

Vinyl chloride monomer is not all that persistent, apparently a half-life of 1.5 days in the atmosphere. It evaporates from surface water but can last in groundwater for a while. The combustion products are nasty but shorter lived -- hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, a small amount of phosgene. This is the reason they burned it, the combustion products are a shorter-term problem. The HCl will kill pretty much anything in high concentrations, but not enough will get to NJ to have an effect.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I brought up the AirNow map for February 2 (before the wreck) and it's just as yellow.

Yeah it is but I would expect this to be handled the same way that evac was handled in that country we finally managed to liberate after 20 years. Oh wait...

From what i'm seeing on social media, seems like Long Island got hit with it. The substance is all over the cars.

The blowback on this is going to be huge. I can see the tort attorneys drooling and lining up for this baby. Norfolk Southern will likely be sued out of business, and legal charges would not surprise me. That does nobody on the ground or downwind from this disaster any good. I see the RR multi-million$$ bossman finally showed up. This crap has just started, I wish I could say it's unbelievable how some people act but unfortunately it's too common.

Sell your stock in this RR company, it's going down and it wouldn't surprise me to see the CEO with serious legal charges.

Downwind governors and mayors should be all over this. We'll see.

Do I stand corrected, or did a similar spill to this occur about 10 years ago in Paulsboro?
