Ironically it was Chris Christie as then federal prosecutor who blew whistle on Bob Menendez back in 2006. CC went on to become governor of NJ but couldn't use his bully pulpit power to get Menendez pushed out, so oily git kept being reelected.

Now that Menendez has been officially indicted by feds democrats both in Washington, NJ and elsewhere are doing what they always so; turn on one of their own soon as scandal breaks.

Murphy has called for Bob Menendez to resign at once from office, but the senator thus far has said he's not going anywhere. He did however step down from chairman of foreign relations committee.

Hopefully he will resign.

Murphy could consider Andy Kim, who represents NJ's 3rd district, as an appointment and Kim could run in 2024.

He is generally liked in my district for being responsive, and it'd be a good change for a South Jersey native to represent as one of the Senators.
Rep. Kim was first democrat out of the gate calling on Menendez to resign. Funny that....

Murphy now finds himself kingmaker. You know every democrat in NJ with any ambition is making phone calls and or rushing to kiss the ring.

Don't forget MB "C-Class" sedan!

"The New Jersey Democrat was indicted Friday for allegedly accepting a Mercedes Benz C-Class sedan, 13 gold bars and $566,000 in cash, which FBI agents found “stuffed in envelopes” after a June 2022 search of his home.

Senator Menendez’s wife, Nadine, was indicted alongside her husband for taking bribes. The Menendezes also received mortgage payments, a recliner, exercise machines and other items in exchange for shielding co-defendants Wael Hana, Jose Uribe and Fred Daibes.

Bob Menendez also allegedly attempted to intervene in a criminal case against Daibes by recommending President Biden pick current New Jersey US Attorney Philip Sellinger, who the senator believed would apply a light touch to the cause.

If convicted on all charges, the Democratic senator faces up to 45 years in prison."

I see a plot for a book about corrupt political actions and the making of a great scapegoat to throw off people from thinking we have a double standard DOJ. It would involve Mexican bribes to our government in order to keep our borders open and the money flowing from people wanting to come to this country. I think this could be a best seller. Remember I said fiction. Anybody that wants to is welcome to take the idea and run with it. My brain just thinks up all kinds of ideas when I see the news. Of course in the book everything that was found in his house was placed there by someone else.

I don't know a thing about this man. Beyond a fun plot I have no interest in this subject. Carry on!

I wonder where Cory Booker has gone. Silent? Kamala? (As VP she is President of the Senate). How can they pounce on Kavanaugh but not call for Menandez to resign. No Spartacus moment?

Cory Booker is about to become senior senator from NJ, he likely cannot believe his luck and is laying low likely not to appear to be enjoying thus huge helping of schadenfreude.

Meanwhile Frank Lautenberg must be spinning in his grave at prospect of Corey Booker's assent.

Widow Lautenberg and rest of that family having long turned pictures and statues of saints upside down will likely be left to continue gnashing their teeth and wail about Corey Booker's rise.

Another point in Kim's favor is his district is safe Democrat so he can be appointed and promoted to Senator, and they will find another Democrat for his district.

Also he is Korean American and not that many Korean Americans have served in Congress, and he would have more visibility as a Senator. I suppose great for the diversity angle for the Democrat party.

However, he is from South Jersey and maybe primaried by someone from the northern part of the state.

I'd have to look up how many times a South Jersey native has been a US Senator from NJ or NJ governor, if it has ever happened.

It really wouldn't matter about who Murphy appointed to take Menendez's seat (if he quit) and or Kim's (if he got kicked upstairs to senate).

Menendez is up for reelection next year (2024) IIRC and so is most if not all House members and that includes Kim. Anyone appointed to either seat would have a very short honeymoon and not much time to build and launch an election machine.

Kim did manage to win in 2016 by a bit over 2% against Tom MacArthur. But that being said never rule out a strong showing in certain parts of NJ's third congressional district could see a republican win. You move Kim into senate and that creates an open House seat. Normally that creates a free for all as everyone and their mother takes a shot.

On senate side things are much safer as it's all NJ. State hasn't had a republican senator in Washington, D.C since Nicholas F. Brady. And he was only a stop gap appointment after Harrison A. Williams (D) left in disgrace.

You don’t think Murphy calling for his resignation is the right thing to do?
