You don’t think Murphy calling for his resignation is the right thing to do?
Never said nor implied it wasn't. But that's all Murphy can do as he cannot remove Menendez from office.
Bob Menendez has been under investigation or otherwise in trouble nearly from day one he became senator. Yet somehow, somehow the good people of NJ keep overlooking those minor niggles and keep reelecting the guy. That's got to figure into why Bob Menendez has said he's not going anywhere other than giving up his chairman positions.
My guess is unless tried and convicted by this time next year Bob Menendez will be on ballot for 2024.

“Turn their backs on their own” didn’t exactly come across as praise.
I mean you did say democrats turn their backs on their own as soon as scandal breaks but now you’re saying Menéndez has been under investigation or in trouble since day one (2006?). So which is it?
This guy is done. Caught then caught again. You don't toe the party line right down the line they make an example of you. But he deserves to go away. What this guy did pales in comparison to the insider trading shenanigans in Congress. Still he does deserve to go. Over half the members of Congress are millionaires on relatively meager salaries. Funny how that works.

If you bother to read up on things answer to your query is *both*.
Menendez has been under investigation or otherwise in trouble going back years. His first time at bat other dems were calling for him to leave senate and or turning their back on the guy. But Menendez somehow came out of that *and* won reelection as well.
Democrats have a habit of shooting first then asking questions later.
Al Franken was shoved out of office when in hindsight allegations against him may all not have been wholly accurate.
It would suit Murphy and other democrats purposes if Menendez went now instead of dragging things out. More so since 2024 is a presidential election year where anything can happen.
I'm not any big fan one way or the other BUT I read the allegations and I see NOTHING. Anyone is allowed to donate things to whomever they want to. End of story. That's the way life has ALWAYS been. Nothing here,,, NOT guilty,,, NEXT victim please.

Did Menendez report any of the "gifts" as income on his federal tax return? He may have a Hunter Biden problem. But it wouldn't surprise me if the feds uncover a quid pro quo going on here.
Section 61 of the Internal Revenue Code states that gross income means all income from whatever source derived, except as otherwise provided. I can tell you there's no exception for what was found.
