unless you want to spend the rest of your life in jail, leave the gun at home. It doesn’t matter what the law is because it’s intentionally vague in the state of New Jersey and the prosecutors will prosecute and you will be a news story.

Do you understand the punishment for illegal firearm possession or transportation in the state of New Jersey to be life imprisonment, or are you just engaging in gratuitous hyperbole because it sounds better than reality?
It makes little sense why a drivers license is valid in all states (which is a PRIVILEGE) where as a CCW permit isn’t (which is a constitutional RIGHT).
Also, NJ along w only 7 other states don’t have “shall issue” laws. The other 42 states do so obviously they are in the fringe and not aligned with mainstream America.
Even many blue states like CO, OR, WA, MN and many more are “shall issue”
Also NJ is ranked 48th among the 50 states for overall freedom where as PA right next door is ranked 18th.

Drivers licenses are valid in all states because the states agreed to make them valid. They could do hte same thing for carry permits, but have not chosen to do so.

5-10 years and $150,000 for possession of a handgun. Of that, 3 years minimum with no eligibility for parole. Add 18 months and $10,000 for every magazine over 10 rounds. Assuming you survive the prison experience and remain unbroken in body and mind (not very likely if you're an otherwise law-abiding citizen, criminals are rough) when you get out you're probably broke and have a felony conviction (i.e. no good paying job for you). You'll likely have fruitlessly spent everything you had on lawyers. If you had an apartment it's gone, if you had a house you lost it because you couldn't pay the mortgage and taxes while in prison so it's gone too. Unlike regular criminals who have a robust if illegal support network, when you do get out of prison, unless you have family and friends who would harbor a felon (which you don't, since any family you had disowned you for being a criminal and your former friends want nothing to do with you for the same reason), you've got no place to live and no means of support, so you die.
Better to take the beating. The state should run advertisements to that effect.
I am in no way being facetious in my reply, but you're assuming that NJ law enforcement know the fullness of NJ law to the letter.
I wouldn't make that assumption.
If a person is carrying in ANY State, when law enforcement is informed that a person is carrying, automatically, their posture is defensive. Even if said person has a permit to carry, LE has a heightened awareness when dealing with him/her.
So now you're potentially dealing with LE, in a State that is notoriously anti-carry, possibly engaging in a traffic stop scenario with LE, hoping that all will be "okay" with your journey, on the basis of a technicality??
The outcome of this cannot be good.
After reading this entire thread, I honestly think the above statement (bolded and underlined) is the most important. Important enough to repost it.

I’m pretty familiar with NJ firearms law, penalties for violations, and the general nature of a felony conviction. I was simply addressing Kristinas_Cap‘s hyperbolic, and factually incorrect claim.
