Without naming names as I value my privacy… affordable housing is coming in my area soon. I live in one of the wealthiest areas in NJ. It’s kind of making me angry for a few reasons:

1. Property taxes will have to go up massively. Currently the town sets a side a fixed amount for each child. But since the town is so wealthy most kids go to private school. Now with affordable housing you will see hundreds of kids enter the public school system. Who is going to pay for these children? Why of course the residents.

2. Affordable housing brings with it crime.

3. Affordable housing will cause massive traffic congestion on local roads not meant to handle hundreds of vehicles.

Before anyone mentions racism. That is not an issue here. I myself am a minority, and the Asian population in the area is almost 35%. The issue is not race based at all. It’s about ruining the culture, and prestige. Only through hard work could you live in a town like this. Now it’s shifted to a lottery system.

Who are the imbeciles in Mount Laurel who asked for this? Of course the housing is built with town revenues paid by tax payers. The developer wins however a new source of income. The developers want this insanity. The residents do not.

The mayor is trying to put a positive spin on the situation talking about “inclusivity.” But god it makes me so angry.

What other problems does adorable housing bring?

All of these people can go live in Paterson, or Hackensack. They do not deserve my town.

Welcome to the reason why New Jersey has a housing crisis for single family homes. The ruling was ignored for a couple decades, then they said well you can build but you need to put your 20% somewhere else. Now its all or none.

The Murphy Administration is forcing the requirements with their own laws, to move census data around to get a few extra Democrat Congressional and state seats. That is all.

The town I live on the border of has been fighting this housing a developer is trying to push ~250 units literal wetland plots of only a few acres a piece. This is in a small town. In the same town on Rt. 10 they just leveled out beautiful woods all down the highway in order for low-income housing. The mayor put out a statement that they are extremely upset but Murphys law made it happen.

Theres another town fighting 700 units on the size of a football field (i have no idea how they will fit) but in essence it's going to double the town population. Now the town has to build new schools etc., its a complete disaster.

Murphy is the most corrupt politician in the states history.

It makes me so angry Danny.

Why do filthy democrats keep trying to rig the voting population to their advantage? Everything they do comes down to votes.

This new development is going to increase the town's population by 30%. Yes 30 freaking % of the town is going to now be low income who need services provided to them.

I'm actually scared to see how much property taxes have to go up to not only provide them with services, but also to build/finance/maintain their housing.

Large towns like Paramus with a booming commercial base, and never ending new construction of $1M-3M homes can take the hit and feel nothing. They can take 2,000 of these people, and still even cut taxes due to excess revenue.

What is the logic behind this move? That people are entitled to a higher quality of life that Paterson cannot provide? Or to make sure more seats go blue by shifting the voting population around?

Murphy is a POS. Why doesn't he take all of these people, and bring them to Monmouth County? Im sure with Murphy's $140K property tax bill he can take the hit.

Affordable housing for n New Jersey benefits developers. How many units will be market rate? I get it. You worked hard for your money and worked hard to move into a nice town in a nice house. You don’t want the riff-raff trashing up your schools and neighborhood.

It’s like a stereotypical classroom in a high school where you have the kids who are honor students and they sit upfront and pay attention to the teacher and spend their weekends doing reports and studying. Then you have the kids in the back of the room throwing spitballs and laughing at the teacher. Partying on the weekends, drugs, etc. Now they can benefit from the hard work that made Upper Haughtyville so special. Best of luck to you.

Liberal, progressive democrats with socialist tendencies realized where they went wrong with various civil rights housing laws back in 1960's and 1970's. Whites and or anyone else with money and sense simply packed up and fled cities for the suburbs or other nice areas.

To democrats discrimination wasn't so much blatant as "red lining" or whatever, but never the less it existed because of things like cost of homes in area, zoning (specifying certain minimum lot size, banning multi-family, etc...), so began their quest for "inclusion" and "equality". How to get there? Simple, bust the suburbs.

Same script that was used to bust neighborhoods back in day now is being applied to suburbs. On federal level Obama began forcing these changes. Trump rolled them back, now Biden has them back on front burner.

On state or local level it's same thing. What these people want is to force "inclusion" and "equality" (meaning nearly always minorities/persons brown or black coloring) by giving such persons access to all the nice things found in suburbs. Good schools, healthcare, various amenities and services for the children and others...

When whites and or anyone else with money and sense packed up and moved to suburbs they took with them their wealth and industry. It isn't surprising hospitals/healthcare, public schools, etc.. are better in well off areas than say many urban. People who live in suburbs pay high property taxes and put up with it because of perceived value received back.

In NYC you have "affordable" or "low income" housing often billed as "luxury" buildings in prime areas that are forced to take people who otherwise wouldn't get foot past front door.

Yes Kristina the developers worked hand in hand with the democrats, and corrupt judicial system to make this happen.

Just another reason why NJ is transitioning to a hellscape while millions migrate to the Sunbelt.

The governor and democrat party don't care about you. You are only a number or a unit to them which is used only enrich and impower themselves. Murphy spends his summer in his 24 bedroom villa in Italy, and looks at people who vacation at the Jersey Shore as vermin. The man couldn't even identify a NJ vegetable during the debate when asked, for which he responded peas.

It makes sense, he was given the Governorship in a Ritz Carlton meeting back in 2013 for doing favors for the Obama Administration, and Murphy has to deliver results back to the Democrats.

Thanks for so many links but the issue isn't white vs minority here. Its more about wealthy ($300K HHI+, $2M avg home price) vs poverty. Like I said we have a sizeable Asian, and Black population already.

The underlying reason why this is happening is to just change the voting population. No other reason.

yes this is obvious now. the democrats want to enact one party rule, and this is their way of making it happen.

such insane corruption. their voting base of free money addicts will see a state, and country destoryed.

You're area might have sizable population of minorities, many others do not. Hence reasons why issue of "affordable housing" is tied into providing for certain demographics.

It isn't just one saying so; research the matter on your own and see what's out there.

You cannot simply say persons at certain income level will reliably vote democrat.
