That's true that the cost of living is way more expensive in California but I've heard so many things about people starting in the North Dakota oil fields for $70,000+. The reason I would like to go there is so my husband could work and I could go to school full time and if he was making enough I wouldn't have to take out any student loans. In California I have to work in order to keep up with our bills especially since my husband hasn't been working for almost a year. My husband is a plumber and things are really bad here right now.
I sure wouldn't complain if I was you. Even at $3200/month BEFORE taxes, you'd still be making $6000+ more a year than the Sept 2008 State average wage of $33100.
I don't know where you came here from, but I bet if you figure it out, your your living expenses here are a HECK of a lot less here than they were there.
In 2005, the state average wage was $29800.

15 dollars an hour when you figure that I had some 120 hour weeks last summer makes that 60K a year easy, spend half of some days shoveling snow to get yourself back to town and you get to spend time with Mother-in-Law Nature too. Maybe you would want to choose to stay in CA.
I just saw on the news that Halliburton is expanding in Williston. They broke ground on a new $20million dollar complex to be built near their existing one. This one will be 30acres in size. They said they had to lay off a few people last year when the oil boom cooled, but are preparing for an upswing in oil in the NW part of North Dakota again, and are investing in preparation for a surge in activity again. Good news for North Dakota...I think we are in for a few more good economic years in North Dakota if this expansion is a reflection of things to come.
Seasonal??? Not so much...Oil Prices??? Has a lot to do with it. If price of oil should drop into the $40 dollars ranges... some of the companies will pull back on production and exploration...but so far things have held their own. Production and axpansion of services have actually been increasing over the winter months, and is expected to really pick up this spring, summer and fall.
I'm a recent grad..have my CDL w/Hazmat..trying to find Companies in the Dickinson,Nd area who take recent grads..any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm in western montana and have housing already situated there..TIA
