How is it that the rights of the homeless (or any other group -- or individual -- violating local laws or municipal codes), especially when they have other choices available to them, carry heavier weight than my rights as a home- or business owner...or just an ordinary law-abiding citizen (even if I don't "own" squat)? Aren't our laws/codes on the books mainly so that, as a civilized society, people are able to live, work, and move about in a reasonably safe, clean/unpolluted area?
Out to where?

That is no solution and if your town moved them to another town; that town would probably return the favor.

That might work. Ask the ACLU how they feel about it.

The very last group I give a rat's you-know-what about is the ACLU...and their "feelings".

Not saying there's a 100% solution (to this or any other problem). But, there should be some way to break down the problem into more manageable components.

Some percentage of these people would decide to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to get off the street if being "forced out" frequently enough becomes too big of a pain to keep setting up camp over and over again.

Some percentage are truly mentally ill and would be better served being forcibly taken off the street and insitutionalized. Yeah, I know, those institutions are all closed...yada, yada, yada. But think of all the jobs that could be created by building, opening, and staffing such facilities.

Some percentage are criminals who should be incarcerated. Work camps, anyone?

Some percentage are drug addicts. Perhaps they'd like to visit the Philippines.

So, that covers "some percentage" of 'em, which would at least help the situation.

Something like 15% of the homeless population are mentally ill. And you can't institutionalize an adult without his or her permission, unless they are a danger to themselves or someone else.

Orange County needs temporary and permanent housing solutions for the homeless - Daily Pilot

Mike Alvarez a Orange councilman had a meeting last week about the homeless. He said the only time Orange pd go to the river trail is if they're called they never patrol the area. Our mayor Tita has never once been there. And he confirmed that other areas like San Clemente Irvine and LA are buying homeless bus tickets and telling them to go to Orange. Basically Orange is screwed

(I added the bold...)

Then the crux of the the problem in regards to the mentally ill is what meets the standard for "danger". I don't have the answer, but if public/emergency services aren't willing to go into those areas (too dangerous for them?), that should be a clue.

BTW, I know there are plenty of homeless vets who probably fall into the mentally ill category. Those people should be fast-tracked (top priority) into whatever Cadillac programs are available. We owe them at least that much. Just wanted to say so.

So Anaheim city council issued a state of emergency on this area last night. Supposedly they are going to start clearing them out. This should be interesting. IF they manage to do it in Anaheim they're just going to move down to Orange fv HB. Those tarps and stolen bikes are pretty mobile OR they're going to invade Orange and invade the train station, the circle, the parks, the streets.
