So I work at an office right next to where most of the encampment was until they were forced to move (massive boulders and sand piles are in their place now). Chapman exit off of the 57. Now they've shifted across the river. From my office I have a full view of the shenanigans. I have a couple of dozen stories I could tell about all the sketchy stuff in the immediate area I've seen in the last year. From talking with a couple of residents from the neighborhood, they say that crime (theft, mainly) has increased about tenfold. Just today I saw a guy with a completely tatted up face carrying an absolutely gigantic pipewrench, scoping out the Denny's/Motel 6 parking lot next to the encampment, presumably to either bash a car window in, or bash someone's brains in.
I'd wager a paycheck that none of the protestors that showed up a couple of weeks ago actually live anywhere near this disaster zone.

Riverview must hate it. I've golfed there a few times and have encountered a few random people trying to ask for money and sell golf balls. Weird people.

I'd imagine 80% of the people who live within a mile of the encampments hate it. I feel pissed off for these residents and I live 25 miles away (commute here for work).

Unfortunately these homeless camps are all over the West coast. British Columbia Canada has a huge problem with the homeless camps and druggies throwing their needles etc. all over the parks.

In CA druggies and gangs are taking over many of the parks.

Ditto SD. Not aware of other Counties, but I suspect it is rare for parks, unless major ones, not to have the problem. One of the reasons HOAs are popular, they keep such out.
