The state legislatures of Oregon and Washington passed bills to make DST permanent, pending approval by the federal government. In California, the voters approved a referendum, but it failed to get the required confirmation in the state legislature.*

Seeing as how we didn't personally vote up or down on this, is it something we actually want? I'm curious especially because the population of both states tends to be more concentrated in west, between the Cascades and the ocean. The farther west you live in your time zone, the later the sun sets irrespective of DST, so there's less justification for it. If we imagine an ideal time zone exactly 15 degrees wide, with City A just inside the eastern boundary and City B just inside the western boundary, then City B already has the equivalent of DST with respect to City A. And I would expect that the residents of City B are less eager to establish permanent DST, because that would mean very late sunrise times in the winter.

*I'm not not sure how the law regarding voter initiatives works in California. I voted on many initiatives during the time I lived there, sometimes for and sometimes against, and I can't recall any successful voter initiative that required legislative approval.

What's your take?

I don't want it.

I bike commute 13 miles each way across Vancouver. Well, e-bike.

My daily commute to work at 7 am has been in pitch darkness for the past 2 weeks and in pre-dawn twilight before that. I see lots and lots of school kids out on the streets and waiting for school buses in the dark. It will be a relief next week to have the clocks turned back and finally have adequate daylight in the morning for myself and the tens of thousands of school kids on their way to school.

Basically during the summer this far north it doesn't really matter how the clocks are set. We get plenty of daylight either way. But in mid-winter months it makes sense to have clocks set such that 12-noon actually happens closer to solar noon as it is supposed to be so that there are equal amounts of daylight before and after 12-noon. That is the way things have actually been for millennia before we started messing with the clocks.

I don't care either way, but if they do it, it will make time in North Idaho interesting. North and South Idaho are in different time zones and if Washington goes full time daylight savings, then North Idaho will be on a different time from South Idaho all the time and a different time from Washington six moths out of the year.

Myself, I'd like to have the country stop changing the clocks, but I don't care if it goes full time daylight savings or full time standard time. Just pick one.

I do. I don't care about the morning on the two days I commute at 5am, it's dark PDT or PST except for maybe June. I prefer having it light later all year, that's when I can tinker on my classic car, do yard work, or other outdoor activities, even in winter. We're not afraid of being out in the rain, but it's hard to see outside in the dark.

I'd be happy to see it come to an end. I also think whatever is done should be uniform across the country but that's just MHO.

I would like it to be gone forever. I don't typically drive in the dark and really try to avoid the dark and rainy combo. In December, with the change, it's dark by 16:30, which makes afternoon appointments challenging.

Keep current status. DST and Standard times. Just remind me when its time to change times.
Retired and too late to change my natural biological rhythm.
Often I am quite surprised that I awake and not dead . Not jk.

Moving to Seattle area from midValley Oregon, means 15-30minutes more dark time in Seattle, but the darn street lights here are annoying vs being in the rural Oregon.

Scientists say we should be on permanent standard time, so I support that.

I just want it to stop changing twice a year and stay one way or the other.
