We are looking at a house in the Cantonment area. ANY feedback on the area is much appreciated.

It’s not as bad as it was years ago. And if you do smell it, it’s not everyday, the weather and wind has to be just right.

Cantonment is a mixed bag though, lots of slummy looking houses with the occasional nice looking one.

we lived there for 3 years. Some very nice neighborhoods. There are days you can smell the paper mill but not every day or even every week. Shopping on Nine Mile road is handy.

Seems to have any type of acreage with a property you'd have to consider Cantonment or north in Escambia County. For that reason, I think there are certainly gems to find there. Tate seems to be a decent school, too.

It just depends on what your expectations are. Cantonment is mostly a lower income area with older houses, however there are a few newer subdivisions that have popped up that are decent. Personally I would look slightly south of there around the Gonzales area, west of hwy 29 around Tate high school.

We had some 'kiddie crime' in our neighborhood from teens roaming around at night from an adjacent neighborhood. Unlocked cars or homes were targeted and people would lose bikes and things left out overnight.

Some of the neighborhoods have lots of rentals and more resident turnover. Your realtor should know.
