He knocked off $90 because she complained he probably gets $440 from lot of people who don't complain. If these guys prices get high enough buying a home warranty now becomes more cost effective.

Agree. It's 118 outside and 95 inside the house... $440? Where do I sign.

Yikes! A capicitor for my unit is $15 on amazon. The AC guy will charge $135 plus a $150-250 service call.

It is literally 4 screws to remove the cowling, One screw to loosen the clamp. And 4 wires to switch to the new capacitor.

The trick is knowing which wires and where they go.

I replace ours every spring.

I know just going to do it myself from now on just didn't have time this week. Going to order a 321 hardstart kit I had one on my old unit replaced it last year figure give it a few years before I replace the caps I have a cap tester. Just a shame how much these guys charge I understand costs IMO $200 max for one hour cap replacement. I guess everyone is rich after last 3 years or they wouldn't be charging that much.

Agree. It's not a hard job, but you don't want to fool with capacitors unless you know what you're doing.

I had one replaced last June for $250. I thought that was pretty reasonable. As I recall the temps were well over 100 at the time. My AC was out for about one day and although it was only about about hi-80's in the house, I was thrilled to write that check.

I'm completely ignorant about a/c, as I haven't had many problems, so didn't have to smarten up. But it just so happens that I had a capacitor problem. I was irked at the price, then reasoned that of course I wasn't paying for the capacitor - I was paying for the labor.

That said, mine was much cheaper than yours. But I picked an a/c company with a low hourly rate. Companies do their best to prevent you from figuring how they charge and prevent you from shopping around. You have to work at it. It makes a big difference if your company is charging $90 hour vs. $250 an hour.
