Yeah, this WILL be tricky for those of us with P&S cameras - but certainly not impossible. To give you an idea of what can be done, this photo was taken with no tripod on auto settings... in Amsterdam about 8 years ago, so the camera was also a lot crappier than my current one. Although, sometimes I wonder if the "old school" cameras were better than our newfangled fancy ones? Can't seem to get anything this nice with my 14MP!

Wow Gizmo, very beautiful shot indeed. You could probably win this month's contest with an image like that. Thanks for showing what can be done even in auto mode. And yes it will be a bit tricky.

Yeah, I know what you mean about some of the newer cameras. I had an old Canon point and shoot G1 3.1 MP ~ 10 years ago that could do more than many of the current 12-14MP p&s cameras today. It's so old now that it would be hard to give away. But it had a great bright f2.0 lens, 1/1.8 sensor, full manual controls, optical viewfiinder, hot shoe, RAW mode, etc...

Unfortunately manufacturers now have consumers fooled into thinking it's all about MPs and larger LCDs, when in fact there is so much more to a decent camera, even a point and shoot.

Derek

Sounds very interesting, I already have an idea.

My iPhone 4 isn't too great with night shots without the use of flash (it's not bad at all though), the quality tends to be lower but I think I can make it work.

Thank you for the comments! Totally wish I could enter that photo, but I guess you all would figure out it wasn't recent - darned internal time stamps, LOL. I have some ideas for this contest, though, and just hope I can come up with something that decent.

Btw, I didn't realize we had such a short amount of voting time... how long is it, anyway? I missed the voting altogether this month, which is a shame - there were some beautiful photos!

To be able to stay on a monthly schedule, the last day for submitting entry photographs will be three days before the end of the month, ie, if the month ends on the 30th then photos must be submitted no later than the 27th.

The poll will be opened the day after last day for submitting entry photographs.

Basically three days.

But this should be discussed in this thread: Photography Contests - Overall Discussions So, this message is being "copied" to that thread to possibly discuss what we want in this contests. I have foundsome issues to be confusing for me.

Living in San Francisco I'd say you have some pretty good options. I've always wanted to shoot the Golden Gate at night from a popular beach there. I'm not sure of it's name.
