My job is relocating me from the Northeast to the Sparks, NV area. I'll be living there with my pre-teen son and hope to bring my parents (who are seniors) with me. Is there a neighborhood that would have something for everyone. Stuff for teens, family's, as well as seniors. Shopping and dining convenience is important, but a safe neighborhood is paramount. Are there any areas of town that I should be staying away from? Not really interested in the schools (as my son is homeschooled), but I do want him to have friends and activities in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I don't know where else to find out what the area is really like.

Spanish Springs is where you want to be,, I think. Remember the whole area is small, you don't have to live in Sparks. South Reno and Spanish Springs and the Northwest Reno is where the middle class is found, old Sparks and old Reno are rundown not a place for a good family. Sports are big, remember that you may have practice one day in the North Valleys and a game the next in South Reno.

The good high schools,,, Spanish Springs, Galena, Reno Mcqueen,, Reed is good but over crowded.

If your family loves the outdoors, Reno is in the center of great stuff to do. If you are a citified family it won't be so great.
Summers run in the 90's with low humiditys, Winters in the 40's with some snow.

I'm sorry, but there are quite a few nice older/established areas in Reno. Old Southwest Reno/Newlands Manor just South of downtown is a very nice, but quite pricey. Many areas around Lakeridge Golf Course are also quite nice as is South Suburban Reno (Foothill Road/South Hills area) and Hidden Valley.

True,,, but,,,, the areas you mention are pretty pricey. Skyline,, is my favorite part of Reno, if I had to live in town, but,,, pricey... Hidden Valley has two components,, the new,, stucco houses, many of which are built in the flood plain, and the old part,, where my inlaws live... Also,, a bit of a hoot,,, the new homes going in behind Hidden Valley,,, in the gully.... bizarrre that,,, in the gully... Hidden Valley is built on an alluvial fan,, created by debris that washed down,,, the gully.

When someone posts on this board, I assume that they are not in the Caughlin Ranch, Foothill road mode,, or their attorney would be doing the research for them
