Advice for someone new to renting:

It would be best to read up on your state landlord tenant laws, many resources are identified in this sticky thread. However some states have minimal information available, in that case I suggest the following resources to learn the basics.

These fact sheets here provide a really good education for a first time renter Austin Tenants’ Council/Tenant-Landlord Fact Sheets

Tips for renters is a good one to start with. Austin Tenants’ Council/Tips for Renters

They are written for Texas law with is very similar to the basic laws in most states.

Nothing. It's a "sticky" in that it remains in the same location on the forum but is open for inclusion of additional links to state landlord tenant laws.
