Be careful… all he has to give you is 30 and you’re out.. he doesn’t need a reason.

OK, now it comes out. You are most likely living in a lower rent place. In real estate you might not always get what you pay for but you are not going to get more than you pay for.


Lower rent means less maintenance and less service.


I suggest that you take a careful look around at what you can afford and make sure you can move to something better before you give notice that you will be moving out.


You should be able to tell when you view a possible place whether or not the landlord takes good care of his properties. Whatever you see, it isn't going to get any better, no matter what promises are made before you sign the new lease.

Regarding the bathroom tile issue. You can add a 2nd shower rod and curtain to avoid water hitting the area near the loose tiles with rotted wood behind them. If no water hits that area, then no water will drip down into the unit downstairs.

Lol not lower rent. I’m in a condo in NYC. I pay 1800 a month for a one bedroom. This guy is just a greedy jerk.

I lived in a condo before this for eight years. With the exception of a few minor things no problems in all that time. Landlord was a sweetheart and fixed everything promptly and never raised my rent.

Yes I know but here in NYC believe me it takes a lot longer than 30 days to get a tenant out.

$1800 a month in NYC is extremely low rent. You'd have to pay $1800 a month for a one bedroom condo where I live and I'm out at the ends of the earth, not in one of the most expensive cities in the world. If NYC is chock for of gorgeous well maintained condos available for $1800, a month, then move to a better rental. if you don't have the cash, put the move on your credit card and reduce the stress in your life.


If your definition of a good landlord is someone who "never raised my rent", then your view on life is pretty darn unrealistic.


You aren't happy there, so move.

Well I'm not in Manhattan and that is the average rate of a one bedroom where I live, actually you can get a two bedroom for less (Staten Island).

Yes I consider not raising my rent for almost 8 years a great thing, also mentioned she never bothered me and fixed anything without any fuss.....I only moved out because she sold her house and was downsizing and moving back in.

What is "low" is subjective and relative. NYC is diverse with hundreds of different neighborhoods and price points. There are more than a handful of neighborhoods with median rents for one bedrooms at or under that amount. This article gets into things somewhat.
