Cafe Express would be fantastic... Comparing it to a low-end spot like Souper Salads or even Jason's Deli is a total apples and oranges situation.

An upscale, quick-take eatery like this would definitely add to the dining scene in SA. I'm getting sick of everything 'new' opening in the city always having to be at the lower-end price point. Contrary to popular belief, San Antonio does have money (and we enjoy spending it!).

Not just money, but taste! Why do I have to see the same cheesy 6 or 8 restaurants every 5-10 miles around here? I don't get that at all. 1604 at Culebra is no different than 1604 at Bandera, except for the movie theater. It's all kind of homogenized. And hey, I like Olive Garden just fine, but variety is the spice of life! Can we get a Chuy's over here on this side of town? How about a Pappasitos or Pappadeaux? Maybe a Maggiano's? Is there just no interest? I'm not asking about 5 star steakhouses here, I'd just like something that is at least local to Texas that doesn't resemble Bennigan's or Friday's or Applebee's or Chili's or -insert American casual dining fare here-. Local Mom & Pop, of course, always welcome!

Sorry, I hope I don't offend. I would love to see the W/NW side become slightly more refined and less homogenized.

Maybe I should fire off an email to Cafe Express. Ask why they are only in H-town and Dallas...

P.S. I'd also love to see the HEB Market concept brought to this side of town; it's different from the HEB Plus, it's sort of a hybrid between Central Market and an HEB store. I heard they put one at 8053 NW Military Hwy...would be nice to have one for the Westover Hills/Sea World area. I don't care for HEB Plus; too crowded and too big.

Okay I'm done.

For the longest time, Culebra/1604 was farmland. Only in the last several years has the growth exploded. Give it tiime you can have totally congested areas such as 281 north of 1604

I would have to just say that in a growing market like this, the big chains can afford to put in multiple buildings at the same time, while still purchasing up sites that they may not even build on for a year or two down the road, if at all. unfortunately most mom and pop restaurants get beat to the prime spots or outbid due to cash flow. Just my opionon of course.

It's a Compass Bank. I think that brings the total number of banks in that square mile to at least 10

I think people have the wrong idea about the expansion in the 'burbs of SA: It's not that people want more chains and more of the same old crap, but higher-end eateries (both home grown and franchise) and some of the things that Dallas & Austin have.

I've always found it odd that no matter how many new strip malls are built, they all seem to have the same lineup: Nail salon, Sub Shop, Bank, etc.

I really do think SA has moved past this kind of development.

It's already congested. Try driving on 1604 on a weekday morning. Some individual put traffic lights on 1604 when it wasn't that busy....well..... now it is....
