Recommendations for restaurants in Santa Fe (Albuquerque, Espanola: appointed, houses, wedding)

I am doing a home exchange to Santa Fe for 3 weeks in the Fall and would be grateful for restaurant recommendations, mostly in Santa Fe but also Taos and Albuquerque if possible.
I will be celebrating my first year's Wedding Anniversary so I need at least one "special occasion" place as well as your favourite other types of restaurants , coffee houses etc...
The Three Forks Restaurant at the Rancho de San Juan is fantastic (located north of Espanola on the road to Ojo Caliente). You might want to book a room there for the night because after one of their meals and a glass of champagne and a bottle of wine I doubt you'd want to drive back to Santa Fe (45 minutes to an hour).
In Santa Fe, Geronimo is our favorite special occasion resto. Ristra is great too.
In Taos, go to Lambert's. Doc Martin's bar at the Taos Inn is a wonderful watering hole.
And sorry to disagree, but we ate at the Rancho de Chimayo a week or so after they re-opened and were very disappointed. I would not recommend that place to anyone.

That is disappointing to hear. I haven't been since the fire. Hope they can get their act back together since it's such a unique location.
Santa Fe has so many wonderful options it's hard to choose just a few. We enjoy The Compound, Inn of the Anasazi, and the historic Pink Adobe just to name a few. For something fun and different we enjoy The Cantina at La Casa Sena. They do dinner in "seatings". The waitstaff are all singers, and all during the evening they perform Broadway show tunes. It's really very fun. We took our teenage sons but we were fearful that they would say it was "lame" or "stupid", but they loved it. Vanessies is also very good. The food and ambiance is very good and they have a pianist that can play anything you can think of. Even if you don't go for dinner, just of have a drink and enjoy. For breakfast try the Tecalote Cafe. Nothing fancy at all, but it's our favorite place for breakfast not just in Santa Fe, but anywhere. We've been eating there for more than twenty years. The Cowgirl Hall of Fame is also a great place to grab a burger and a beer and enjoy sitting outside on the patio.
In Taos, all of the other posters have mentioned very good places, but also I suggest Grahams Grille. I would describe it as casual gourmet. And for something local and casual for breakfast or lunch, try Michael Kitchen.
All these folks have told you about the EXPENSIVE places to eat in Santa Fe. Although Geronimo's is AWESOME!
Here are some (somewhat) budgetary favorites;
Tomasita's (very touristy)...but tasty
Puerto Penasco - Mexican seafood (a meal for two with booze is about $50.00)
Marisco's - same thing as Puerto and priced as well.
Maria's (same pricing as above)
Tia Sofia (try the bacon roll w/red)
Baja Tacos (kind of a hole in the wall on Cerrillos) and only offers al-fresco dining.
El Parasol (about the same as Baja)
