I wouldn't go so far as to say the weather is great for biking year-round; I wouldn't want to do that in the freezing winter temps (those are what skiing is for), or the 90-degree summers that are becoming more common, or even the 80+ degree temps. But the West Coast in general has the most livable climate of the US, IMO.

I'll put in a plug for the UW's ethnomusicology department, which over the decades has given Seattle an international/global dimension to the music scene. People may not be aware of what a rare asset this is; ethnomusicology departments are few around the US. The UW top admin back in the 90's actually wanted to close the department permanently, as part of a broader cost-cutting effort! Kudos to the department for defending itself, and for continuing to contribute to musical diversity in the city.
Yeah I was thinking Washington ok the troll under the bridge Lol and the popcorn store

You ever sat next to a bonfire at Golden Gardens Park west of Ballard at sunset with your friends after a rousing game of beach volleyball eating Dungeness crab, having a beer and watching the sunset over Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains? Try it, then tell me you don't like this place. I dare you.

What? Do you realize that it takes about 20 minutes to make 30 posts? Maybe you're not a good typist, so it takes you a lot longer. Or maybe you have to think harder to come up with a few posts, lol. Not that this has anything to do with the thread topic.

Ruth, as long as you say nice things about Seattle once in awhile, you can post as much as you want on my thread.

Hey, thanks. And someone mentioned Lake Chelan--one of the most beautiful places on Earth I've ever seen! OK, that's off-topic for Seattle, but I couldn't help myself.

ok, let's see...that post took ... 10 seconds.

I mentioned Chelan. I think it is fair to mention places that are relatively close, because your city gives you easy access to the region-this is an asset.

On another thread I pointed out that Seattle offers big city amenities, such as ballet. The response? Seattle was bashed-for not having good enough strip clubs.

Can't please everybody.

Come on, do we really have reach that far to include distant attractions?... a 4+ hour drive for some summertime warm and sunny wet fun???

By these criteria Fresno is even better than Seattle because it's a mere 3 hours to either SF, LA and even closer to a part of the Pacific coast with a pleasant climate, Yosemite, and the rest of the Sierra Nevada...

The sunny weather, very pretty rivers and scenery around slightly off beat, charming historic Roslyn are only 1 1/2 hours away. A few of my clients have cabins over there.
