The Kokomo (there were several locations in SBC) served those and the famous shrimp basket.....mmmm! Those places are all gone now as is so much of the legendary culture of Shreveport. It's a different place these days.

Used to go to Kimerly's (sic?) Electric Circus before it burned down. Went to Kimerly's Sand Piper (it caught fire a couple times) Did the Carousel Lounge to play darts, Sean's Blarneystone to play darts, The Rusty Nail to listen to music, play darts and check out the ladies Humphree's in the Square, The Sports Page, Moulin Rouge, and Earnest's on Commerce (it too burned up). Had many a cold beer and oysters at Monsour's on Texas. Did dinners at TGIFridays in the square and Sansone's and Brocato's on Kings. Of course HerbyK's on occasion. The only 2 places still around are HerbyK's and Earnest's... (the new location after the fire).
There's really nothing quite like back in "the day". Very few really good local places as there were in the 70's to mid 80's.
Heck even the Sheraton in Bossier was kickin with the disco-lit acrylic dancefloor as was the case with Mulligan's at the Bossier Hilton. Fell in love at both places many, many times
With chain restaurants and a shrinking younger nightclub populace, there's just not a lot of local entrepreneurs in the nightclub/restaurant biz like there used to be. It was a different time back then too, no casinos to compete with.

Big Chain Cafeterias (don't remember when it was a grocery store as I've heard my parents mention), Rubensteins, P&S Hospital, Doctor's Hospital, Mid City Cafeteria - best hamburgers in town!!! Goldrings, sitting in Santa's lap in the appliance area (near washers and dryers) at Sears on St. Vincent.

Pizza King was a block down King's Highway, toward KTBS, but on the other side of the street. Almost across the street from Brocato's Restaurant.

That drive-in was the Sunset Drive-In, with the Dairy Queen behind it on 70th street (the Woodlawn High School hangout), and the Albertson's Supermarket across the street from the movie.

Johnny of Johnny's Pizza claims to be the first Pizza restaurant in North Louisiana around 1966 but I'm sure Shreveport had some before that.

I remember that golf driving range. We used to go and shoot buckets of balls like when I was aabout 11, 12 or so. Never did take up golf however.
Shakey Pizza was located next door to the McDonald's, but it was located on Shreveport-Barksdale Hwy., where the exit ramp comes off Clyde Fant Parkway is now.

The hamburger joint was NICK'S, it was actually on the corner of 69th & Linwood, across the street from the Pak-a-sak. Dowden Brother's was the gas station (Cities Service) on the corner where a Circle K sits now. I bought gas at Dowden's for .24 cents a gallon, when I first started driving. Boy, that was a long time ago !

The first time I saw a speaker used to order a hamburger in your car, instead of having a carhop take your order, was at the corner of King's hwy. and Mansfield Road (Hwy.171). It was the CALIBURGER ! Anyone remember that one? On the opposite corner was a restaurant that sat diagonally, but I don't remember it's name. The Joy Drive In was on up Mansfield Road, at the intersection where it met Greenwood Road (Hwy.80). You could see the drive in lit up behind that intersection at night, as you drove north, even from King's Hwy, since it sat behind that fork in the road. The Main Shreveport Post Office sits there now. Back to the west, on the south side of Greenwood Rd. was Loudini's Skating Palace. The outside of the building was round and was, I think Stainless Steel. The El Chico's sat next door. Loudini's was torn down when they built Interstate20. Farther west was the Nehi Bottling Plant, with a fresh vegetable stand located across the street. On the corner, a little far west was a supermarket. It might have been a Piggly Wiggly. As a boy, I remember it, but not totally certain of it's name ! Anyone remember the name?
