I find it interesting how the roads websites never take preemptive action to close roads or issue no travel advised before or during a snow event. A narrow band of what looks to be around 7-8 inches hit Brookings SD and spread through west central MN and all the roads and interstates on both the South Dakota and Minnesota DOT websites are opened though if you look at the video feeds they are nowhere near travel-able.
Must they have visual evidence to issue no travel advised or close interstates? Or do they just move at the speed of government, which only reacts to everything and never takes preemptive measures? They must just close interstates for the snow plow's benefit and not the motorist. Thing is, a lot of shift workers need that no travel advised to help get them off the hook for driving to work, and the roads are nowhere near travel-able around here this morning. I always disliked how they handle their classification of when a road is "no travel advised" ... always waiting until after the storm is over to issue it which makes no sense. Moving at the speed of government.
I guess we got your "light snow" here in Vermillion/Yankton. ie: nuthin' at all. It's GORGEOUS today! Ice is melting, squirrels are playing, and all is right with the world.
Not to make anyone jealous or anything, but I went barefoot outside today! (Feb 10). OK, it was for less than a minute on my deck, but still, it made me so happy!
Occasional snow flurries today have become a steady snow fall that is accumulating. Winds are still calm, but the temp has dropped about 10 degrees to 20 above zero.
Added by Edit; Snow continues to accumulate in the Southern Hills. Winds remain calm. Visibility has dropped to about 1/4 mile.
