I'm guessing it will be a near average year. I think most tornado activity during the winter and early spring will be in the Southeastern U.S., and the Midwest becoming more active later.
There have already been 29 tornado reports on January 3-4 across Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
"We are in uncharted territory with respect to lack of severe weather", said Greg Carbin, SPC's warning coordination meteorologist. "This has never happened in the record of SPC watches dating back to 1970."
Well, I'm sure this wasn't your intent, but I wouldn't get all excited about it.
Here's the thing. I think tornados are amazing. I hope to see one some day. At the same time, rooting for a bunch of tornados is essentially looking forward to having death and destruction visited upon some innocent soul somewhere.
Scariest thing to see on radar is a debris ball. That means you are staring at the radar picking up debris in the air. Horrible. Moore, OK might be getting hit now. Sirens all over the area going off.
