A friend of mine drove home from a party while under the influence of booze and cocaine. The man driving the car he hit was killed. I consider that a form of murder.

I had nothing to do with him while he was in state prison, but now that he's been out for a number of years and doesn't abuse drugs and booze, I've softened my stance quite a bit.

During my pre teen years i had a friend named Jason. He was a bully but didnt bully me. In fact he somehow took a liking to me and beat up people who bullied me. Anyways I learned after moving away he had stabbed someone to death.

A colleague killed his ex-girlfriend and then himself.

Yes. My friend's little brother was waiting for his friend to close up shop one night (they were in their teens) and a guy came in and shot them both execution style.

I guess it shows how much more common murder in America is compared to Australia. I don't even know a friend of a friend of a friend or am in any way remotely connected to anyone who has murdered anybody or known a murder victim. The closest 'brush' with premature death I've had was when my cousin committed suicide, and when a school friend was hit my a truck when he was 15.

Yes to both. I grew up in a really rough area. I had 6-7 classmates that I knew personally, that killed other people by the time we were seniors in high school. Several others killed people after high school. One classmate ended up on America's most wanted as a high school senior after he killed his step mom and kidnapped his girl friend. He was a very scary guy. I had a neighbor that was killed and left in a dumpster. A girl that I knew pretty well in school was stabbed to death a few years after high school, she was a great girl it was very sad. Last year my brother in law was carjacked and he killed the man as the man was attacking him and my nephew. Even though we moved away from that area after high school, we still hear about terrible things that happen to people we knew that are still there.

My ex father-in-law was a personal friend of Rolf Wuetherich, who was with James Dean when he crashed and died. Rolf used to work in my ex father-in-law's auto shop as well. Anyway, after going back to Germany Rolf tried to murder his wife but didn't succeed. I am still on good terms with my ex mother-in-law and see her regularly. After my ex father-in-law died she gave me all the letters written to them by Rolf from the time he returned to Germany in the 1950's up until his death in 1981. I am holding them in trust for my son, who will receive them when he turns 25, with the agreement that we do not make the contents public until that time. The letters are full of Rolf's feelings about the death of James Dean and what happened the day he crashed, as well as accounts of his attack on his wife, stays in mental hospitals, etc...

Yes, many of both. Grow up on a reservation, it is not unusual.

Two, and both were in families of co-workers in my present job.

One's sister was murdered and left in a dumpster in the 80's. The cold case was recently re-opened.

The other was freaky and heart-breaking. His two sons, both enrolled at the same college, fell into a scuffle one day and one grabbed a knife and stabbed the other one to death. Seeing what their father went through was a tough one (I've lost a teenager, so I knew what he was going through.)
