The best thing about Puerto Rico is that it is the tropics, unlike Miami, which is not a tropical place.

The worst things I ever encountered when visiting Puerto Rico were the chiggers.

The best things were the people.

I've always hated the word "chigger."
Sounds like a really bad bad racial joke!

But anyway, what the heck's a chigger?

Googled "chiggers". Looks like it's some kind of bug. Never heard the word before.

It is a small, nearly microscopic, mite that often thrives in grassy areas. Its bite leaves big red swollen itchy welts. Worse then mosquitoes. I walked across one grassy area and got a dozen or so bites that took over a week to heal.

Holy ****! I have never heard of those. Probably because I don't walk around grassy areas.

Man, that sucks. Always wear long legged pants to those places.

You know I've found that some friends that visit PR have bites that look like mosquito bites, and may or may not be mosquito bites, but they may also be chiggers. Personally, I've never gotten those. I always thought it was a foreigner thing. Weird.

At my cousin's place in Cidra there is a large grass area bordered by banana, plantain and mango trees. I've been bit by those little $@#&! when walking around back there, never have been able to see the culprits either.
