Before Bill Gates mom got a gleam in her eye we used to say Seattle was Vancouver.........with no class and no style.
I would love to know where is the class and style in Vancouver....

What violent crime in Seattle?? It is one of the safest city in North America.

Quite a lot of marginalized people in Vancouver...
Many are asians with an inferiority complex, others are older canadians with an inferiority complex. Actually the US ambassador said that all canadians have a deep rooted inferiority complex. Probably for good reasons.
Well, maybe there are some Canadians (immigrants or older generations) who may have a complex, but I still say there are MANY Vancouverites (or BC in general) who truly are not jealous and believe that this is "The best place on Earth"
I guess I just don't believe all Canadians feel 'inferior'.
Vancouver, because prostitution is legal in Canada. Here in the states, the government thinks it's their business to tell two adults they can't have sex if one of them is paying for it ...

There really isn't a place in Vancouver where I wouldn't walk around at all hours. You really can get around without a vehicle.

I've only been to Vancouver once, but there seemed to be one area in particular that I wouldn't go near once it got dark, but that's just me. Hastings Street looked like anarchy to me and that was at noon.

Hastings isn't that dangerous, even a 3am....it's mostly unarmed and sickly drug addicts who you could probably defend yourself against it came down to it. They are usually too weak to take on a fight in the first place. There's some inherent risk in crossing paths with mentally ill schizos and whatnot...that's about it. Oppenheimer park is a bit sketchy, but unless you're trying to buy fake crack rocks from sketchy people, you probably won't encounter that. Hastings at noon is fine any day...plenty of people about...its grungy but not dangerous. Anarchy lol.
Vancouver vs Seattle is an interesting one. I personally would like to see more unification between the cities because they really do compliment each other - where Vancouver voted against a freeway into it's downtown, Seattle has incredible vehicle access. Where Seattle has a huge music scene, Vancouver has a filmmaking scene. Pike Place, Seattle has a diverse selection of more nerdy/crafty stores, where as Granville Island, Vancouver is a foodies paradise.
The one thing that did catch me off guard in Downtown Seattle one time is how early things close, in Downtown Vancouver everything stays open quite late into the night - more of a european style. It seemed like in Seattle almost everything had shut down by 6pm.
As another interesting difference, pretty much every job posting in Seattle will show the salary - this is a good thing. In Vancouver this is not the case and can end up wasting a lot of people's time.
I really like both cities, and I feel lucky enough to live near both of them. But seriously - where is that high speed rail link? Why can't there be a eurostar-type of connection between these two wonderful cities?

Vancouver has more natural beauty and better Asian food but Seattle is more suitable for families as a city with plenty of real jobs and affordable housing. Seattle has slightly better weather and is a much larger city.
Really depends on what you prefer. As someone who needs a job, I would strongly prefer Seattle.
I do not agree....Vancouver has the mountains much closer but Seattle has more water features....I think, on balance, they are on the same level when it comes to natural landscape.
