Scout around to find a swamp where the frogs and birds are raising a ruckus during the day. Don't worry so much about eclipse pictures, just set your phone on a tripod and set it on record for the time leading up to and through the entire event. The cicadas, birds, frogs, etc. will all fall silent as the darkness begins. There can be a change in the feel of the very air. It will get a little colder, and there is something else you may feel that is hard to put into words.

If you want the full experience, the further away from people you are, the better. You don't want kids screaming or adults nattering, just the sound of nature and then silence, and then nature returning.

If it's not cloudy my place is in prime territory for viewing the full eclipse, and in the middle of nowhere. I am hoping the weather will cooperate. It will be an interesting experience.

A lot of people here in St Albans are getting excited about it. However my employer is sending me to Chicago on a biz trip that week. So I'll be missing out on this once in a lifetime event of the path of totality passing right through my home town. Oh well! Hope everyone in northern Vermont enjoys it and I'll experience it vicariously through stories when I get back.

Never heard of Kerrville.

It's supposed to be mostly sunny on Monday here in northern Vermont. They're going to get a good show.

Trying to find a place in driving distance from Houston where it doesn't totally suck.

Is anyone going to work? Almost no one is coming into work that day - they expect a traffic apocalypse. I will be at work. And at 3:20 I will take a break and go outside for 30 minutes. Its supposed to be clear skies. Unfortunately for the rest of the people in the path it will be cloudy. That's why they expect so many people to travel here.

We're driving up to the St. Johnsbury area-ish from Boston. Honestly, at this point we'll just be happy to find a grocery store parking lot to watch from, but wondering if anyone has any ideas of places in the Northeast Kingdom to pull off to watch?

Really kicking myself for not planning to get a hotel earlier!
