Wow. Thanks everyone who actually gave me advice. I will look into those areas and sites for hotels.
As for Plokivos. This was asking for advice. You know nothing about the situation or me. If you can't be helpful you shouldn't be here. You obviously think the worst of people. By the way, I don't have an expense account and am paying for everything out of pocket myself. So I may as well add a few days for personal vacation on. There is no business outside of the conference days, as everyone goes home when the conference is over. The conference by the way if for continuing education, not business meetings.
Deeman804 got it right. I will be on site for the entire conference and only doing business then. I will be staying a few days longer for personal vacation and was trying to decide on staying in the same hotel or switching hotels for this portion. I will find a hotel closer to the sightseeing for this portion.
I have stayed in Crystal City many times. You can get just about anywhere, tourist wise, via the Metro from there.
You can also look for hotels out near the Springfield Mall. I’ve done that, too. Metro Station right there as well, but it's farther out than Crystal City.

The Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station area in Alexandria is another hotel best buy that is less known.
