I’m very saddened to read this news.

I've only been a member of this forum for about a year and I’ve only posted a handful of times, so I don't have the history with ElkHunter that many of you folks do. I clearly remember my first post on this forum, which was like many others, stating that I had an interest in possibly moving to WY and asking for suggestions of areas to look. I got friendly and helpful responses from a number of people, but within 24 hours Jim had mailed me his personal phone number and offered to meet me in Sheridan when I came to check the area out, and as long as I had room to bring Timber along, that he would be happy to drive around with me and show me the area. Some things came up in my personal life and I was unable to make it to Sheridan this year, but Jim’s extremely generous offer to a total stranger made a huge impression on me.

I’m very sorry that I never got the chance to meet him in person. I think that my life would have been better for it.

Rest in Peace Jim

I had no idea as I haven't been on the Wyoming forum much lately. I know I never knew him personally but being a regular on the forum you kind of feel like you know someone. Rest in peace ElkHunter.

Oh wow. I'm just reading this now, and am in shock. It's uncanny how you get a sense of who someone is from reading their posts. I first posted on the Montana forum back in 2007 when we were considering a move from Maine. We didn't make it then, but came out in 2013. All that time I'd been reading MT posts, even if I rarely posted anything except in the Maine forum. Most recently I'd posted on here (WY) asking about Lusk, and will be moving there in a week. Hubby and son are all ready there, I'm just wrapping stuff up in MT. I admired him, enjoyed his posts, and thought highly of him. I wish I'd gotten to meet him.

I, too, enjoyed Elk's insight and knowledge of all things West. I appreciated his direction and advice when considering a move to Wyoming, and also on our ultimate move to western Montana. Would have been fun to chat over coffee. He is missed.

I am a few months late in reading about Elk Hunter passing on. I never met the man but just from his postings on this Forum I know he would have been a friend. My prayers go out to those you left behind Elk Hunter.
