Description: Buckingham’s, in the Clarion Hotel next to the Grand Village, is our nod to Africa with its safari decor, forest plants, animal-skin prints, and carved wood totems. The cuisine might be labeled as modern continental. Appetizers are good and big enough to serve as light fare for those with a modest appetite. The menu is clever, and food ranges from what you would expect (steak, fish, and prime rib) to the exotic. The wine list is good, with more than thirty selections. Description: Once the home of railroad magnate Harry Worman and his wife, Dorothy, the restaurant is one of the newest and swankiest in the area. The menu features American Harvest cuisine, perhaps because it presents the best of our bountiful land: hot waffles with a variety of syrups (pecan is one of our favorites), omelettes to order (and they can put just about anything in them, from ham and cheese to mushroom and jalapeños). There’s a great view of Table Rock Lake, and the mood and decor are right out of the Roaring ’20s. The turnoff to the restaurant, about a half mile down MO 86, is well marked.
