Description: The Alex was built in the 1920s by the businessman whose name it carries but the owners have recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of the property. The hotel is one of the treasures of Rapid City’s historic downtown (six US presidents have stayed here, and you’ve seen Cary Grant here in the 1959 Alfred Hitchcock classic North by Northwest), and its lobby is beautifully furnished with Lakota art and artifacts. Here you’ll be in the heart of town, yet within an hour or so of every attraction in the Black Hills. The 143 rooms are elegantly furnished. There are three suites: the Executive; the Bridal, with a hot tub; and the impressive Presidential with two separate bedrooms and a full kitchen. Some rooms are wheelchair accessible. The Landmark Restaurant is on the first floor, as is Paddy O’Neill’s Pub and Casino, and meeting and banquet facilities are available.
