Description: Pontoon boats can be rented for two hours or a full day. Rates depend on the size of the boat and day of the week; generally they range from $75 to $250. Fishing boats with six-horsepower motors are also available for rent, either hourly or daily; the rates range from $30 to $70. Life jackets and instruction are included. A snack bar at the marina serves chicken, ice cream, and beverages. The marina rents its 200-plus boat slips mostly by the season, but overnights can sometimes be accommodated with advance notice. Prices vary, so call for information. The marina is on Pactola Reservoir’s south shore. To get there, turn right off US 385 at the Black Hills National Forest Visitor Center.

Description: Another bolted sport climbing area on a limestone ridge, Falling Rock is 3.1 miles west of Rapid City. Turn left (if you’re coming from town) off SR 44 onto Falling Rock Road, a dirt road where you’ll find two parking areas a short distance apart, both on your left. Trails leading from the first parking area will take you to the top of the limestone cliff, and those leading from the second one go to the cliff base. Contact local climbing shops for information about routes.

Description: This city-operated, scenic course rates high with golfers who like a challenging game. It also rates high on GolfWeek magazine’s list of the top-50 public courses in the country. Open daylight to dark whenever the weather permits, the 6,520-yard, par 72 course has 18 holes with bent-grass greens. A driving range, PGA pro, and lessons are at your disposal, and beer and snacks are available. Greens fees are determined by age, residency, season, and day of the week. Moreover, the entire rate system changes almost yearly, usually increasing across the board by about 5 percent. Count on paying $17 to $24 for a round of 9 holes in summer, $27 to $38 for 18, and about $17 or $27 for cart rental on 9 or 18 holes, respectively.
