Insider Pick:

Description: This glorious old-world estate was the Black Hills’ first bed-and-breakfast; it was founded in 1985 and is still owned and operated by the same family. Its handsome antique furniture, purchased when the family was in Europe, adorns each room. The beautiful buildings on the property are the Old Powerhouse (built in 1910 for watergenerated electricity), and the chalet-style das Abend Haus (German for “the Evening House”) Cottages. Each has two suites. You can also stay in one of seven big, high-ceiling log cottages, each of which is delightfully decorated. All are available for weekly or monthly vacation rentals. The rooms, suites, and cottages are elegant and luxurious. They’re beautifully furnished in rich colors, fabrics, and woods. Each has a private bath and entrance, latticed deck or porch, hot tub, cable television, refrigerator, and microwave. Breakfast is placed in each refrigerator so guests can heat and enjoy it in privacy. It includes bacon-and-egg quiche for two, homemade baked goods, fruit, cereal, and juice. Audrie’s is in a pretty, quiet, and secluded canyon 7 miles west of Rapid City. You can easily drive to any Central Hills attraction, or you can take a walk, explore the Black Hills National Forest around the property, fish for trout in Rapid Creek, which flows right through the estate (you’ll need a license—see the Recreation chapter), or bicycle up the road. Fishing poles and bicycles are provided for guests. Dedicated to comfort and privacy, Audrie’s does not allow children or pets, and guests are asked not to bring visitors. The hot tubs can’t be used after 11 p.m. or before 7 a.m. so that everyone can enjoy the nighttime peace and silence.
