Description: Here in what is claimed to be the largest wild animal petting zoo in America, kids get a chance to pet little critters and observe the bigger wildlife. Included in the roaming tribe you can observe as you drive through are tigers, bears, cougars, lions, buffalo, elk, zebras, and camels. Free-roamers include goats, llamas, deer, and peacocks. Description: This melodramatic roadside attraction with its looming dinosaurs is a bit startling to those driving by. In operation since the mid-1950s, the garden presents these ancient reptiles in a rain forest setting. Built to the correct shape and size, the dinos are also accompanied with interpretive signage. It’s a self-guided tour through the garden so it’s easy to take your time to absorb the knowledge as well as the fun. Open all year, daily from 8 a.m. until dusk.

Description: Located 6 miles north of the California-Oregon border is a stretch of mild climate on both sides of Brookings that the locals proudly call the Banana Belt. Alfred A. Loeb State Park has a good sampling of the famed myrtle tree (it’s actually the largest grove in Oregon). There are some good swimming holes in the Chetco River and lots of picnic nooks.
