Description: This melodramatic roadside attraction with its looming dinosaurs is a bit startling to those driving by. In operation since the mid-1950s, the garden presents these ancient reptiles in a rain forest setting. Built to the correct shape and size, the dinos are also accompanied with interpretive signage. It’s a self-guided tour through the garden so it’s easy to take your time to absorb the knowledge as well as the fun. Open all year, daily from 8 a.m. until dusk.

Description: Located 6 miles north of the California-Oregon border is a stretch of mild climate on both sides of Brookings that the locals proudly call the Banana Belt. Alfred A. Loeb State Park has a good sampling of the famed myrtle tree (it’s actually the largest grove in Oregon). There are some good swimming holes in the Chetco River and lots of picnic nooks.
