9. New Year’S Eve Fireworks And Ball Drop

City: Gatlinburg, TN
Category: Annual Events & Festivals
Telephone: (865) 436-4178
Address: 115 Historic Nature Trail

Description: It may not be Times Square in the Big Apple, but standing shoulder to shoulder with 25,000 other New Year’s Eve revelers under the Space Needle isn’t too bad for downtown Gatlinburg. The festivities start around 11:30 p.m., leading up to the lowering of a lighted ball from the top of the Needle (near traffic light #8). When midnight strikes, the attraction suddenly sparkles from top to bottom in a seven-minute display of pyrotechnics—about $10,000 worth, to be specific.
