In addition to the dining room, an outdoor balcony overlooking the waterfall is open upstairs in the summer. The light and airy setting is enhanced by a profusion of plant life in hanging baskets and wall planters. 8. Lineberger’S Seafood Co.

City: Gatlinburg, TN
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (865) 436-9284
Address: 903 Parkway

Description: A refugee from the low country of South Carolina, Lineberger’s features one of the most complete lines of fresh Atlantic seafood in the area. The restaurant, a family-owned business established in 1948, is strongly reminiscent of the seafood houses that line Murrell’s Inlet, just south of Myrtle Beach, with an extensive variety of seafood dishes and platters cooked to your order. Landlubber offerings like steaks, chicken, and chops will suit the aquatically challenged, but a visit to Lineberger’s shouldn’t really be for that type of eating. Another plus: The window views afforded from most seats make Lineberger’s a great place for people-watching.

14. Mountain Lodge Restaurant

City: Gatlinburg, TN
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (865) 436-2547
Address: 913 East Parkway

Description: The Mountain Lodge is a huge local favorite for its extremely Southern breakfast menu. The staff (which usually includes several members of the Smith family that owns the place) will treat you as though you’re the most special thing that’s happened to them all day. The deceptively large building can hold 125 guests, which means you probably won’t have to wait long to get seated. Ample parking is available on both sides of the restaurant, which is open for breakfast and lunch only.

15. Ma’S Kitchen

City: Gatlinburg, TN
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (865) 430-7799
Address: 680 Glades Road

Description: This may be the most appropriately named restaurant in the area; it’s a small converted house that has just one room, and that room is a kitchen. Donna and Sue (and frequently their kids) will take your order from a basic Southern menu, and then they’ll pitch in to help Jamie cook your order and serve it. There’s nothing real fancy on the menu, and the rest of the place is every bit as unpretentious—they serve good, honest, salt-of-the-earth food in generous portions. Weather permitting, you can eat in the front yard’s parklike setting. Ma’s Kitchen is generally open for lunch every day, plus breakfast on Saturdays (closed Sundays).
