Nice outing today from a guy who threw a perfect game for the ChiSox last year. He's trying to find his stride during these spring workouts. And Castro's hitting the ball very well this spring, too. More from today's game below.

Humber is still competing against quite a few other guys for a spot, and he's going to need to be near-perfect just to get in. And Lyles didn't have his best stuff yesterday, so that could help Humber's chances.

Sorry it's taken so long to respond back.
It's been better this spring than it was last spring. Only 7 people are on this year's opening day roster that were on it last year at this time. Bo Porter is serious about wanting to win and stressing fundamentals and playing the game right.
If the Astros get good starting pitching and the offense clicks at the same time, they certainly can win some games. For now, I'm picking them to get 93 losses this season and finishing last in their division, but some of these younger players will rise to the occasion. Chris Carter's been looking real good as has Jason Castro. And Mal, let's not forget former Cardinal Rick Ankiel, who has been a fantastic pickup for the 'Stros so far.

Ankiel's projected to hit .292/.384 (OBP/SLG) in 297 PA's providing 0.3 WAR
Castro's projected to hit .331/.378 in 379 PA's providing 1.8 WAR
Carter's projected to hit .332/.468 in 479 PA's providing 1.6 WAR
Carter and Castro are roughly league average players. Ankiel...he can still throw. Was watching an Astro's ST game on TV last night...he almost gunned a guy out at first on a line-drive single to RF.

Great Opening Day victory for these guys. And in front of a national audience, no less.
8-2, Houston over the Rangers. They did a lot of things right on Sunday night, and regardless of how they'll finish later, it's certainly a great start for them.

Also, Justin Maxwell did something only five other MLB players in history had previously done. He hit two triples on Opening Day. Excellent beginning for Justin, as he showed the things he's perfectly capable of doing when he's at the plate.
On opening day the Astros' starting 3Bman was Matt Dominguez. Matt Dominguez is known for being an excellent defender.
Tonight the Astros' starting 3Bman was Brett Wallace. Brett Wallace is not known for his defense.
The opening day starter for the Astros was Bud Norris. Bud Norris has a 40% career GB rate.
Tonight's starter for the Astros was Lucas Harrell. Harrell has a 56% career GB rate.
Porter put the better defensive infielder in for the fly ball pitcher.
There may have been other factors in that decision. Maybe the two players matched up better against the opposing pitchers. Maybe one of the two players wasn't at full strength for either of the games. Any number of things.

Well, the 'Stros have lost two of their first three so far, but they haven't been blown out. The offense has been shut down by two very fine starting pitchers in the last two games. The Astros' pitching in the entire series has mostly been pretty good.
So, now, Houston will now face the Oakland A's Friday, and Brad Peacock will start on the mound at home against his former team. Should be fun to watch after the great spring Peacock had.
