If Kawhi opts out, I think the Knicks make the most sense for him. Nets, Philly, Milwaukee he may have a better chance at winning right now, but the Knicks made that next step, but this series vs Atlanta just showed Randle can’t carry a team by himself, but Randle would be a perfect side kick, the Robin to Kawhi’s Batman. Plus you won’t have to give up assets just money, to get Dame you’d have to give up assets as well.

I like Kawhi better because it gives them an automatic number one go to guy, and he is also someone that can at least try to match up defensively with Giannis, Tatum and KD (although I think he's declined defensively over the last couple of years)
Super max is an understatement. Next year Dame will make 43 Million. Holy smokes! 3 years left on his deal. Probably have to build a brand new team like the Nets did. Kawhi is younger so that does make more sense. Interesting summer ahead for the NBA.

https://nypost.com/2021/06/07/knicks...h-of-the-year/

"Thibodeau was named the NBA Coach of The Year for the second time in his career after leading the Knicks to a 41-31 record and breaking a seven-season playoff drought. The voting was based only on the regular season.
Thibodeau barely edged Suns coach Monty Williams. In a razor-close call, Thibodeau received 43 first-place votes and earned 351 total points to edge Williams with 340 points (45 first-place votes).

Well deserved. You know us Knick fans. We want more next year!

"According to one source, there is mutual interest between Oubre and the Knicks. The Knicks are one of the few teams who can offer him more than the $9.5 million mid-level exception. Oubre was drafted by the Wizards in 2015 at No. 15 and was traded to Phoenix, where he scored 29 points with three steals against the Knicks in a January 2020 game.
The Knicks need more 3-point shooting/athleticism at that position. While RJ Barrett showed progress from deep, he’s still not as good a finisher at the rim as he should be, according to analytics percentages. Scouts believe he doesn’t protect the ball enough."

Oubre would be a good one. Thibbs wants an upgrade in talent and he isn't a player development guy.

"Knox’s status with the organization is a mystery wrapped in a riddle. They brought in Kentucky assistant coach Kenny Payne to get the best out of him, but he regressed.
Thibodeau didn’t like his defensive motor. The Knicks coach was in win-now mode as the season wore on, not looking to waste as much time on development as previously thought. Ironically, Knox shot 39. 3 percent from 3-point range in his brief outings (35 of 89)."

You can't win em all. Knox i believe has the skills to be a great 3 point shooter but he doesn't have the mental toughness to play in a big market. Put him in Arizona or Louisiana and he will be a solid guy off the bench. I believe RJ will be a great player. He will figure it out.

At first, I didn't understand the trade down to get these 2 guys. After reading this article, I have a grasp now.

https://nypost.com/2021/07/31/knicks...-kyle-lowry%2F

"According to an NBA executive who has spoken to Rose, the Knicks’ most baffling draft-night trade — moving the 19th pick for a heavily protected future first-rounder from Charlotte — was done partly to save $2.4 million in cap space for free agency. They never were going to use both of their first-rounders, for cap reasons.
Whether the Charlotte pick is a good trade chip with all its protections — up to 18 next year, 16 in 2023 and 14 in 2024 — depends on whether the stumbling Hornets turn their fortunes around.
But the Knicks do everything with calculated precision — and chief strategist Brock Aller is behind most of it. The Knicks ultimately drafted two players, hard-nosed shooting guard Quentin Grimes (25th) and hard-nosed point guard Miles McBride (36th), whom Rose and coach Tom Thibodeau believe were worthy of the team’s original 19th and 21st selections in the first round."

“They got who they wanted when they wanted,’’ one NBA executive in contact with Knicks brass said.
And now the Knicks have cap space — plenty of it. Only four teams will go into free agency beginning Monday night with significant cap space, and the Knicks will lead that brigade with $50 million-plus — if and when they need to remove Frank Ntilikina’s cap hold.

"July 31 marked the trigger date for Julius Randle‘s contract guarantee, so the Knicks now owe him the full $19.8M for next season, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN. There was no suspense about whether New York would be willing to pay Randle that much in the wake of a career season that saw him win the Most Improved Player award and earn Second-Team All-NBA honors. The real intrigue this offseason involves a four-year, $106M extension that Randle is eligible to receive. The Knicks have plenty of incentive to sign him at that figure, as Randle could potentially make a lot more next summer as an unrestricted free agent, particularly if he puts together another All-NBA season. New York will have his Bird rights if that happens and can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him."

I mentioned in another thread that the Knicks should let him play out that 19.8 mil to prove that last season wasn't a fluke. However, the smart move for the Knicks would be to sign him to that extension to lock him in. He would demand even more if he replicates or improves this coming season.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...ier-agent-says

"In a busy start to the NBA free-agency period, the New York Knicks agreed on a three-year, $43 million deal Monday to bring back former MVP Derrick Rose, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and have an agreement in place with guard Evan Fournier, formerly of the Boston Celtics, his agent confirmed to Wojnarowski.Fournier's deal is for four years and can be worth up to $78 million, a source told Wojnarowski. The deal includes a team option on the fourth year, according to a source."

Evan Fournier is a good get for the Knicks. We needed another shooter. Now we need a starting point guard. Resigning Rose, Noel and Burks keeps continuity and productive bench intact. Let's go Knicks!!

Well, we have our starting point guard if he can stay healthy.

"Kemba Walker is coming home. The Bronx native has agreed to sign with the Knicks and form a point guard tandem with Derrick Rose after being bought out by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, according to an NBA source."

"Knicks president Leon Rose believes the team accomplished continuity, flexibility while boasting two upgrades in Walker over Elfrid Payton and Fournier over the departed Reggie Bullock."
