He is simply the first one eligible for a max contract. He will not be the highest paid player in the NBA for long. He is the second best player on the team and in today's market that gets you a max contract.

Remember when Patrick Mahomes signed his deal and everyone went crazy. His deal is now considered a bargain based on what other QB's signed for.

The real problem with the NBA is the starting salary. Nearly all professional athletes are paid too much. I don't know why anyone would squeal about this contract when dudes who never get off the bench are multimillionaires.

There will come a time when Brown can just flow with the ball and play relaxed the way Tatum does. He has shown moments of that, but has often looked like he's thinking too much and hesitating, trying to calculate everything. He will get there. Getting him on board for the next 5 years is a good move.

I guess SGA is next to back the Brinks truck up to the curb.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba...f1c56780&ei=20

The Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the league's rising young stars who asserted himself last season. Lately, there's been rumors about SGA's upcoming deal and he could be the first player in NBA history to sign a $400 million deal.

Since the news of Kylian Mbappe's contract offer of over $700 million for one year, that he received from Al Hilal, many have started to look at NBA contracts differently. Additionally, the Boston Celtics signed Jaylen Brown to a five-year $304 million supermax extension.

The NBA better hope the Saudi's don't start their own basketball league to compete with the NBA.

Wow. Advanced stats are not kind to Brown.......they don't see his style of play as "winning ball" compared to others. He was 5th or 6th in WAR on his team by Fivethirtyeight.com's evaluation despite playing so many minutes. Basketballreference.com has his WS/48 at exactly .100......league average.

I do think volume shooting guys are undervalued by these metrics...it's not easy to score in volume night after night and the guys who do so are rare. Many players with higher metrics would fall flat if given that role on the team.

I guess for Boston it is opening up a window now to try and win a championship, regardless of price. Still, I am shocked by the contract. If Brown is worth this much, guys like Giannis, Jokic, Embiid are worth 100M a season.

Probably jokic is worth 120 million if brown averages 60 million. I will still take browns contract over fred van vleet though. At least brown is in his prime.

The two should have nothing to do with each other. The NBA has an increasingly strict salary cap, looking to break up even homegrown teams. Oil nations owning world football teams (with no cap) is an entirely different animal.

I can’t imagine too many top players in their prime going there. Smoking weed will get you the Britanny Griner treatment and even Ronaldo had to get special permission to live unmarried with his girlfriend over there.

If jokic is offered 300 million per year to play there and not smoke weed, im sure he will go. 1 year of wages equals to 5 years in the nba.
