Wow! 35 million a year used to be you hit the lotto. His salary averages out to 60 million a year. Holy smokes! Good for him. The Celtics probably had to pay him or lose him. I am curious who is the next player to surpass the 100 million a year plateau?
Jaylen will not have a chance of mvp, will not be top 10 overall in the nba. He is not the best player on his own team.
What are the celtics smoking?
If you don't want to pay him, then what? Trade him, for who? Let him walk at try to sign a free agent? He is 26 so you are paying him until he is 31. You get 5 good years with him in his prime. Teams are overpaying aging stars who are not worth half what he is getting. Its the contract after this one that will be a horrible one. Its going to be more than $60m and his last years will be at age 35 or 36.

Now everyones agent who is better than jaylen will demand their teams to pay their client at jaylens contract or more.
Well, I think it’s safe to say Boston won’t be winning a chip with this group. Tatum and Brown both showed they don’t have the killer instinct.
They need a third all star. Porziņģis is not the dude. What teams must pay to hover around the shot of making the finals is crazy. Had tatum not get hurt in game 7, celtics would have make it to the finals. But they probably couldn't beat Denver

I don't think Boston cares about players on other teams getting big money too. I am not an expert on this but I thought there were set limits on how big a contract can be based on a bunch of factors like being all-nba etc. I don't think agents can top that number for their clients outside of those rules.
Other problem is these two max contracts and the new 2nd tier luxury tax will make it hard to fill the roster with quality players.
The nba should have a rule that if a player is drafted by the same team and has never left, if they sign massive contracts it should count less towards their overall cap. With the current system it punishes the team who drafted right, and the smaller teams who drafted good wind up giving max contracts to two or more players that doesn't deserve it, just to keep them.
