Good to see this cornerstone back up with a new image.

Any word on if the Redmont's rooftop bar is also opening?

This is definitely cool.

Magic City sign goes up as Rotary Trail opening nears | AL.com

Quote:
Birmingham's Rotary Trail is one step closer to completion, with the erection of the replica of a "Magic City" sign that was torn down more than 60 years ago.

The original sign, located in front of the Terminal Station, was torn down after a city inspector said it required renovation or removal.

The words "Rotary Trail in the Magic City" were added to the sign Tuesday afternoon. The next step is adding electrical wiring, then red vinyl letters.

You can see the sign all the way down 1st Avenue pretty clearly from areas alongside Railroad Park. It looks good.

The structure itself is really nice. A reminder of the great structures of the past that merged good architectural design with industrial engineering.

I also like that the signs along the trail are also using the same industrial design.

Here's what the UAB sign replacing the Pepsi ad @ 2N20 building will look like:

People have been trashing it on al.com (shocking), but I think it's solid. Quite happy with it. 1000x better than what was there. What do you all think?

I think it is better than what was there but 300k for the design change and just 1yr lease seems like a waste of money for UAB.

Makes me wish they'd just get the old sign board working. Or replace it with some blade runner style holographic display...or just nothing at all.

Once it is up I'll know for sure.

High rise buildings should not have billboards on their roofs. Imagine four or five more DT with competing boards. (or atop the two buildings over the Highland Ave. tunnel) Is this really what we want? This should be ended ,,, soon.

I agree that high rises shouldn't have billboards on their roofs. Highrise roofs are for rooftop bars...
