East Brainerd is the best choice for all VW workers for several reason. It's a great location, safe, good schools and close to all the shopping and entertainment you may need. Cleveland is too far, so I'd stay in the East Brainerd/Ooltewah area. Windstone just dropped their new home prices by another $30,000 and they homes are really nice there. Mountain Shadows is a more established community with lots of woods and a great (big) community pool with very low homeowner's fees. The houses are large in Mountain Shadows, but fairly priced.

Default Soddy Daisy

I live in the Montlake area of Soddy Daisy and although I do not commute to the VW plant I work in the same general area. My commute takes about 30 minutes in the morning sometimes a little longer in the afternoon. I find that the traffic is usually fairly light compared to traveling on 75 and there is very little if any truck traffic. There is also very little traffic to get downtown. One other advantage to living on the mountain in Soddy Daisy is that it is always substantially cooler on the mountain by the time I get home, which is quite a relief in the summer time.

Thumbs up Me too!

We are relocating from NYC to Chattanooga this summer. I will be down for an interview on the 30th. It looks more and more like we will rent before buying.

Thanks for all the info. My husband started his job at VW yesterday. The kids and I will join him eventually. He is checking out some areas this week before he goes to Germany. We need good schools and a nice FLAT yard. We are focusing on the Ringgold area. Any other ideas? Wouldn't mind Ooltewah but we DO NOT like the Hamilton on Hunter subdivisions. Nice houses...but we hate the hills! Are there any other subdivisions to check out? We have checked out some of the newer subdivisions but those yards are smaller. Thanks again for all the advice!!!

It's my understanding that if you live in Georgia, you have to pay income tax, even if you work in Tennessee. Ringgold's nice, but there are a lot of nice communities in TN, too, and you'll see more money in your check every week.

Thanks for the info. Could anyone give me more subdivision options in Ooltewah, Harrison, Cleveland areas? Looking for a safe (possible gated) community. Priced houses around 300,000 range. Also, if anyone has children in these school districts, please let me know how they are. Specifically middle/high schools. I have a 15 y/o and a 10 y/o. School systems area the main priority for the relocation. Thanks for any infor that you can provide.

Sharon

You should check out Mountain Shadows in East Brainerd. We are not gated, but don't need to be either. We have a community pool and tennis courts and a wide variety of homes. We have just under 600 homes in this community and the association fees are only $200 for the year.

Ding ding I agree here. Only worse if you live in GA just across the border....you pay GA state income taxes (which all go to Atlanta) and you also pay the very high TN sales tax.

Do yourself a favor and look inside TN.
