Being frugal is not the same as being a parasite on society. How about putting more effort jnto getting a job.

The one thing I can count on is that you will assume the worst about people.

People on food stamps are not parasites. They often do have jobs!

My rent is $600/mo, I have a car payment, insurance, utilities, feminine supplies, hygiene supplies, etc. I called the DCF and they said I was only eligible for $35/mo with my $219/wk unemployment benefits.

My question is what kind of income do I need to get $150/mo or $200/mo in food stamps. $35 is some kind of joke. My friends make more money than I do and still receive $100+/mo in food stamps.

I can't find any information as to what the correlation is for income to food stamps. I read that I am allowed a maximum of $1100/mo to be eligible for food stamps but none of these articles will stipulate the amount I would receive if I made $1099/mo or $900/mo as I do now.

Thanks,
I know this is an old tread but...

My understanding is that it's about how much you make per month verses how much your expenses are.

I think you should have gotten more. They let you deduct medical expenses, electric, land line phone, gas, water. I think car expenses they don't count. Then after that if you have 30% left you get nothing or close to nothing. Plus you can only have like $2k or so

So lets say you get $880 a month. 600 rent leaves you 280 deducting utilities and some other expenses should have given you max or close to it.

So lets say you get 900 a month and all your expenses would equal 600, they figure you can pay for your own food and all other living expenses with that 300, which is crazy because they don't even take into consideration payments on credit cards, or car insurance I don't think or gas.

So generally to qualify for food stamps you need to have less than 30% of your income available after expenses that are allowed.
