What if I get a letter from a different state saying I have an over payment and need to pay it back and I'm getting food stamps in the new state I'm in? Will they cut me off food stamps I was told by my case worker that every state is different

If you have an overpayment from a different state, and you're collecting in a new state, the new state will eventually find out, cut off your food stamps, and you may have to pay them back, too.
My food stamps were reduced from 150 a month to 16 because I don't directly pay a heating bill. I guess governor Chris Christy of NJ is concerned about we Jersey folks freezing to death, but starving is of little concern. Since he is a fat oinker I can see his demented reasoning.
When my case came up for review I just let it slide as 16 dollars a month wasn't worth the trouble. As a cancer survivor and a senior citizen on disability I just figured it would be an interesting way to drop a few pounds.
Well they have loaded my 16 dollars for the last 3 months and I now have about 48 dollars sitting on my EBT card. Since I find I really miss solid food and would love to sample some be for I cork off, I was wondering if I could just use them.
Do you think if I eat something Mr. CC will send the food police to arrest me? If I go to jail have I the right to take my cat with me. Will they supply the kitty litter?

Thank you for your time. Hungry cat lover.
Unless you get a letter in the mail telling you that they're going to stop them, yes, you can use them.

Christie (and other governors) had nothing to do with the change in the food stamp program. The change is due to language in the most recent Farm Bill (which authorizes the SNAP program) passed by the United States Congress. States still have some discretion in adding caveats to the program (like our gov wants to do drug testing of everyone), but the utility payment formula was done by the feds according to our newspaper, which had a long article on WI people who did not pay utilities separately being hit very hard like you. - one went from $181/mo. to $16. $16 seems to be a common bottom-line number.

Thank you for the info. When I spoke with the Food Stamp people and asked why they told me it was Christie's fault. Oddly I took some comfort it that.
